Mind Is The Magic – Michael Jackson and Siegfried & Roy

Michael Jackson was a big fan of Las Vegas illusionist’s “Siegfried & Roy” and even wrote the theme to the Vegas show!

Michael Jackson wrote a song for the illusionists “Siegfried & Roy“. He was a big fan and went to many of their shows. The duo used animals and magic to create the biggest and highest grossing Las Vegas act ever and Michael Jackson would go on to invite them to all his own tours and even write a song especially for them called “Mind in the magic”! Michael would go on to use part of the song in his “This is it” concert show.

Siegfried & Roy used Tigers and illusion to create a show which they were paid $57.5 million a year for and would go on to perform over 5,750 shows. They even have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. They are Las Vegas’s biggest act and Michael Jackson and the act were friends.

Mind is the Magic

Michael Jackson wrote the song “Mind is the magic” for Siegfried & Roy in 1989. Siegfried recently said, “I remember us talking to him about needing a song, and he just said, ‘Let me write it,’ no questions asked,”. The song was the introduction piece for the opening of their show in the Mirage. It was written with the help of Bryan Loren.

Mind is the Magic and This is it

Michael Jackson reused the beat of the this song for “This is it”. If you listen to the DRILL you will hear the introduction bass and beat underpinning the piece. It is a good song and a great beat and it was originally unreleased so it was certainly a candidate for release and a great addition.

Released in 2010

Mind is the magic was eventually released on a German album July 10, 2009, the cover of the album had a picture of Michael and the duo and a baby tiger. The song was not only used for the live show but was also used in the NBC series Father of the Pride.

Siegfried speaks with the Las Vegas Sun about Michael

“I remember us talking to him about needing a song, and he just said, ‘Let me write it,’ no questions asked,” Siegfried said, shaking his head. “It was such a gesture of friendship.” Jackson was one of the duo’s biggest celebrity fans, a frequent visitor to the show, where he was dually enamored of the entertainers’ white tigers and trailblazing illusions onstage. “I last saw him about a month ago,” Siegfried continued, “at the Wynn hotel, with Kenny Ortega.” Ortega, director of Miley Cyrus’ concert tour, “High School Musical” and “Dirty Dancing,” also was director of Jackson’s upcoming shows at London’s O2 Arena. When I asked the nature of the meeting at Wynn, Siegfried demurred and said, “Michael, he was always interested in magic. We were just talking about how we designed magic in our show — he was in love with our show” (continue reading here)
