Usher Michael Jackson tribute at the o2 Arena (04.02.11)

Usher paid tribute to the late King of Pop Michael Jackson, last night at his concert at London’s o2 arena.

Usher, a long time fan of Michael who performed on stage with the King at MSG (New York) in 2001 has said that he wants to inherit the King’s crown.

Last night Usher, according to the Mirror:

“It is an honour to play this venue, where we all looked forward to seeing a legend perform, but who sadly didn’t make it to those shows – although I would like to perform a tribute to that man.”

Usher performed his Michael inspired hits, including “U remind me” and, with his MJ hat “OMG”.

The Telegraphs review by Tom Gockelen-Kozlowski said:

“Usher tried his best to emulate his idol Michael Jackson, but the search for a new pop monarch is still very much on”

And awarded the show only 2 stars. It’s clear that there can only ever be one Michael Jackson as the reviewer also added:

“Yet his inability to connect emotionally with his songs and his lack of originality only go to prove how special the ‘King of Pop’ was and that the search for a new pop monarch is still very much on.”
