I travelled to see the Mostar Railway Station in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.
Mostar railway station, located near the Carinski Bridge on Maršala Tita Street, opened on 14 June 1885 as part of the Southern Railway under Austro-Hungarian rule. Initially built to a 760mm Bosnian gauge, the station was a significant event for the modernizing city. In 1963, the line was converted to standard gauge, and a new Brutalist-style terminal was constructed. The line became Yugoslavia’s first AC-electrified rail line in 1969. Damaged during the Bosnian War, the station closed for repairs from 2015 to 2017. Despite being rundown, it still operates with limited services, suffering further damage from storms and flooding in 2020.
