The Meteorological Column in Zagreb, Croatia

I travelled to see the Meteorological Column in Zrinjevac Park in Zagreb, Croatia. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.

In Zrinjevac Park in Zagreb, Croatia, stands the Meteorological Column, built in 1884 by physician Adolf Holzer. It records temperature, humidity, and air pressure and was designed by architect Hermann Bollé. Made of Istrian marble, it reflects a tradition of gifting to the city. Beyond prestige, Holzer aimed to study climate’s impact on health. Though no longer officially measuring, the German-made instruments remain accurate, attracting visitors. Zrinjevac, once a livestock fair site, now hosts people relaxing and sunbathing in summer Throughout the year, the square hosts events like the Zagreb Food Film Festival and Advent.
