Sketch for painting the ceiling of the cabaret at “the tambourine” in Paris By Jurij Šubic at National Gallery of Slovenia

I travelled to see Sketch for painting the ceiling of the cabaret at “the tambourine” in Paris By Jurij Šubic at National Gallery of Slovenia. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.

The Le Tambourin was a popular restaurant and cabaret at 62 Boulevard de Clichy in Montmartre, managed by Agostina Segatori, who had an affair with Vincent van Gogh. This sketch for the ceiling decoration of the French cabaret was painted in 1884. Janez Šubic, born in 1850, received his initial art training in his father’s workshop and later in Ljubljana, Venice, and Rome. He was influenced by romantic religious painting and 19th-century academic styles. Šubic worked in various cities and was an art teacher in Kaiserslautern until his death, producing numerous religious works, portraits, frescoes, and drawings.
