How long does it take to become a professional dancer?

I’ve heard a lot of statistics with regards to how long it takes to become a professional dancer from eight to ten years with dancers and students starting their training from the age of seven years old etc. However the bottom line is that it does not take any set amount of time to become a professional dancer! If you go to dance school you may train for three or five or more years and often times the dance schools have rules which will restrict you dancing professionally whilst you are in training and others will not. It’s important to remember that you make your own path and your own rules! Do not ever allow anyone else to impose their timelines on your life story. However long it takes you to become a professional dancer is your choice at the end of the day depending on the path and the direction you take. It can be as short as no time at all, to ten years or more.
