I travelled to see Female Nudes (Girlfriends Friends) painting by Jerolim Miše at the National Museum of Modern Art in Zagreb, Croatia. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.
Jerolim Miše, born on September 25, 1890, in Split, studied at several art schools and became politically active in Rome. After World War I, he taught drawing in various schools and joined the Zagreb Academy of Fine Arts in 1943, where he worked until his retirement in 1961. A notable painter and art critic, Miše exhibited his works extensively, both solo and in group shows. He received the “Vladimir Nazor” Lifetime Achievement Award in 1969. The Modern Museum in Zagreb closed after an earthquake caused significant damage to the building. It’s been closed for several years and I was lucky to have visited the week of the 2020 earthquake while it was still open. This is a beautiful painting.
