Propaganda Art | Egyptian National Military Museum P.1 | Cairo, Egypt / artandculture / By Anthony King Propaganda Art | Egyptian National Military Museum P.1 | Cairo, Egypt Welcome to Art, Culture & Books with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a video tour of The National Military Museum which is located inside the Cairo Citadel and was once Muhammad Ali’s harem palace, set to the music of Erik Satie with footage that I filmed. The museum was established in 1937 in downtown Cairo until November 1949 when the museum moved to the Harem Palace at the Cairo citadel. I enjoyed this museum so much that I’m going to make two videos about it, the first being a video tour which you will see now, and another of a photographic tour of some of my favourite pieces. I’ve always loved propaganda art and the story it tells – we can really see the Soviet influence in this museum. Many of the artworks were painted in the 1990s and are really interesting but also look out for the very impressive bronze sculptures. My Cairo series should not be construed as a recommendation of anything other than the art. If you do decide to travel to Cairo, you should exercise caution.
