I travelled to see The Well of Elegy by Robert Frangeš Mihanović in Zagreb, Croatia. Come join me there too. Welcome to Art, Culture & Travel with me, Anthony King.
“Elegija” (Elegy) by Robert Frangeš Mihanović, 1938, was initially banned from public exhibition until donated to the city. Born on October 2, 1872, he studied in Zagreb and Vienna, later traveling to Paris. Mihanović taught and directed at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, playing a vital role in the city’s artistic life. His work spanned various styles and subjects, from medals to monumental sculptures, incorporating Impressionism and Symbolism. Recognized by prestigious academies, he passed away on January 12, 1940, leaving a significant legacy in Croatian sculpting and art history. The sculpture currently stands in the peaceful Rokov Park.
