Do you have to be flexible to dance?It’s not a requirement to particularly be flexible or to be able to do the splits, for example, to dance professionally. However, if you are not flexible you are severely restricting opportunities and there is no reason why you shouldn’t be as that is part of what it is to be a dancer. With that said the truthful answer is that you do not have to be flexible to dance necessarily because you don’t need anything to dance except a body and do what is required dependent on the particular style of moves you are doing. If flexibility is not required for what you are doing then it is simply not required and that is fine! However, working on your flexibility is very important not only for your dance ability but also for your health and well being… it is unwise for a budding professional dancer to restrict their options and opportunities by neglecting your flexibility!
