Fortress Klis & Brac Island, Croatia Welcome to “Art, Culture & Books” with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a video and photographic tour of two locations; Fortress Klis and Brac Island both in Croatia. The Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress and I’ve heard that it’s been featured in the hit series “Game of Thrones”. We’ll also be visiting the beautiful island of Brac, which is home to over 100 churches and is the largest island in Dalmatia. The Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace in Split was built with limestone that was quarried on Brač. Of course, we will be visited that in a future video.

Located in Wenceslas Square and built in the 1950s, this nuclear bunker under the new Communist luxury hotel was used by the Secret Police to spy on hotel guests and foreign dignitaries. It wasn’t discovered until 1989!

The Monument was built from 1928–1938 in honour of World War I Czechoslovak soldiers and from 1948 it was used to promote the Communist regime, which you will clearly see.

The National Maritime Museum | Amsterdam, Netherlands Welcome to “Art, Culture & Books” with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a photographic tour of The National Maritime Museum, Amsterdam, Netherlands. We’ll also be exploring a replica of the Dutch East Indiaman ship, which is docked right beside the National Maritime Museum. The replica is a copy of the Dutch east Indiaman Amsterdam which was wrecked on its first voyage to Asia in a storm off the English coast near the town of Hastings in 1749.

All of the photographs and videos that you see in this series were personally filmed by me on location, so let’s enjoy, accompanied by the beautiful music of Erik Satie … and then straight afterward make sure you put on the incredible “Moldau”, which is probably Smetana’s most famous composition.
