Today I’ll be taking you on a photographic tour of an 1831 oil on canvas painting at the Alte Nationalgalerie in Berlin, Germany called Granite Bowl in the Berlin Lustgarden by Johann Erdmann Hummel. I’m also going to take you to the granite bowl itself so you can compare today’s scene to that of 90 years ago.

Prague’s Musaion & Naprstek Museum of Asian, African, and American Cultures | Czech Republic Welcome to “Art, Culture & Books” with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a video and photographic tour of the Musaion & the Naprstek Museum of Asian, African, and American Cultures in Prague, Czech Republic. The Musaion was built in 1831 by architect Heinrich Koch and is surrounded by the beautiful Kinský Gardens. The Naprstek Museum of Asian, African, and American Cultures was founded in 1874 at which time it became a cultural and educational centre of the Czech intelligentsia.

Fortress Klis & Brac Island, Croatia

Fortress Klis & Brac Island, Croatia Welcome to “Art, Culture & Books” with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a video and photographic tour of two locations; Fortress Klis and Brac Island both in Croatia. The Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress and I’ve heard that it’s been featured in the hit series “Game of Thrones”. We’ll also be visiting the beautiful island of Brac, which is home to over 100 churches and is the largest island in Dalmatia. The Roman Emperor Diocletian’s Palace in Split was built with limestone that was quarried on Brač. Of course, we will be visited that in a future video.

Hotel Jalta Nuclear Bunker | Wenceslas Square, Prague, Czech Republic Welcome to “Art, Culture & Books” with me Anthony King. Today I’ll be taking you on a photographic tour of the Hotel Jalta Nuclear Bunker, Prague, Czech Republic. Located in Wenceslas Square and built in the 1950s, this nuclear bunker under the new Communist luxury hotel was used by the Secret Police to spy on hotel guests and foreign dignitaries. It wasn’t discovered until 1989!
